8 Ways Pride Destroys
How to avoid pride and what God thinks of it.
All conflicts, fights and troubles flow from PRIDE and it only leads to a path of destruction.
The ‘American’ definition of pride is simply consciousness of ones dignity, being especially proud &/or a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from ones own achievements.
The ‘Biblical’ definition of pride is elevating ones opinions and thoughts above God’s authoritative Word- relying on our own strengths and wisdom to be successful.
- Pride makes you resentful when corrected
- Pride makes you hurt when disappointed
- Pride makes you untruthful when confronted
- Pride makes you impatient when hindered
- Pride makes you greedy when choosing
- Pride makes you critical when speaking of rivals
- Pride makes you distant when slighted
- Pride makes you jealous when seeing others advancing
God’s Word tells us that pride goes before destruction (Proverbs 16:18). In Isaiah, we read about how Satan was cast out of heaven because of pride! (Isaiah 14:12–15). Solomon even speaks of the pride of fools in proverbs!
Pride is simply refusing to see yourself as God sees you. It is a hinderance from seeing him.
How does God view pride??
- Proverbs 8:13 — “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride, arrogance, and evil ways and the perverse mouth I hate”
- Proverbs 6:16–17 — “These 6 things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood.”
- Psalm 10:4 — In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.”
The opposite of pride…HUMILITY.
What should you do to avoid having pride??
View yourself no greater than how God sees you, it’s as simple as that. The only way to know how god views you is to know him and to know His word! He sees you as a sinner in need of salvation. You need His son, Jesus Christ, nothing else. Once you realize this, he sees you as His very own child. He loves you, cares for you, hears you, sees you, accepts you, forgives you and wants you as His own. The only reason we are saved is because of Him so we have no reason to be prideful. Every good thing we have is because of Him! We have to be careful to not be so full of ourselves that we forget why we are saved and by whom, and what we live our life for.
